Love, Sourdough, and an N50 Mixer
Posted Tue, 5 February 2013
Hobart mixers end up at the center of most restaurant kitchens. But one N50 just ended up starring in a love story (cue the accordion).
This little Hobart N50 showed up on the doorstep of the Mixed Up workshop with a special request from the owner, Matt: Turn it into an awesome gift for a special lady that’s brainy and loves to bake.
When it came to design, Matt laid out some guidelines:
• San Francisco is the couple’s dream city.
• They love sourdough. San Francisco’s Parisian bakery was their all-time favorite.
• She’s studying neuroscience and brought a few rats home as pets.
• Their favorite movie Ratatouille brings it all together – rats, cooking, and French 1920’s style.
So I mixed these around for a bit and sketched out an idea—
The N50 would become a San Francisco-style cable car, complete with a gold roof and topped off with a working bell. Ding ding!
I started out with a classic deep-red base just like the Golden Gate. Once I put down the gold leaf, I got down to the little tidbits: I added N50 on the side with detailed line work just like you find on the sides of classic cable cars. I picked out a metallic powder blue color and dropped in a couple little rats hiding on the sides.
The Golden Bake mixer was done. I shipped it out and now it’s doing its thing mixing up loads of sourdough and lots of love. Cheers to the happy couple!
